Mhow is one of the easily accessible and most interesting excursions from Indore. Located at a distance of 23 kms, the town possesses within its history books both mythological legends and traces of British military camps. The name is itself an abbreviation which stands for Military Headquarters Of War (MHOW). It is believed that during the World War, the town was used as the War management center for the colonial rulers.
Today, the small town has become one of India’s prominent and crucial military base for senior officers with three of its leading training institutions situated here namely, MCTE, College of Combat and Infantry School. The Mhow cantonment situated here was borne as a result of the treaty between the British Government and then Holkar king of the region.
Although the town was established in the year1818, it is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Parshurama –a mythological hero. The town is located conveniently at a short distance from the commercial city of Indore. Visitors may choose from either local bus, or a private/hired car that involves approximately one hour of drive.
For sightseeing purpose, Mhow offers several interesting sites and destinations for the visitors. Patal Pani and Berchha Lake located within the range of ten kms. serves as popular tourist attractions. With excellent excursion opportunities thrown-in, the town of Mhow now attracts visitors from far and wide.
